2013 is the inaugural year of the much anticipated UCLA Professional Program in Writing for Television, the only television writing program that has oversight by the UCLA School of Theater, Film and TV. In the Professional Program, students focus on workshopping their teleplays, without having to take the critical studies seminars and related electives that are required to obtain a degree. The goal of this graduate–level program, which takes place over three academic 10–week quarters, is for the student to complete three teleplays – – one spec, one pilot, and one of the student’s choice.

Students will have the option of choosing between the Drama Track and the Comedy Track. Students will be grouped in workshops with classmates who have chosen the same track, and will be guided by an instructor with professional experience in that particular genre.
Along with the workshop, all students will attend periodic seminars presented by guest speakers from around the television industry. The seminars will compliment the writing workshops with discussions about the state of the television business, how to approach the business as a new writer, and where the TV industry is headed. |
